The Institute includes a vast range of professional development classes designed to enable you to develop and hone your skills to become more effective and competent in the role you play within your organization. Classes are designed so that what you learn can be directly transferred from the classroom to your work place. A range of instructional techniques such as a team-building adventure, role-playing, small group work and dialogue among participants will be implemented to enhance the classroom experience.

Certificate Requirements
In order to be awarded the EMS certificate, participants must have attended 85% of the instructional classes. Participants who attend 100% of the instructional hours will also earn 9.3 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The CEUs awarded will be adjusted for those who do not attend all 93 clock hours of instruction. The attendance policy for the EMS Management Institute is highly enforced.
Program Outline/Dates/Location
The selected curriculum of the program includes 93 hours of training conducted in 15 days scheduled over six months from late October through April. A complete program agenda will be provided in the confirmation packet sent to registrants. Classes are scheduled to meet for full days on the following dates:

Location
The Institute will be held at the UNC Charlotte Ben Craig Center. The Ben Craig Center is located at 8701 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. Directions, map, and parking information are sent with confirmation letters.
The Faculty consists of a team of UNC Charlotte professors, trainers, professionals from the private sector, government administrators, and EMS professionals. Many of our faculty have over fifteen years of experience in training EMS administrators.
Fee
The registration fee is $1,550. Included in the fee is a comprehensive notebook of course materials, framed Certificate of Completion, refreshment breaks, parking and one evening social. Meals and lodging are the participant's responsibility. A list of area hotels will be sent with your confirmation letter.
Tuition Assistance
Tuition assistance of $600* is available from the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) for eligible EMS managers for the Management Institute. Those employed in North Carolina as an EMS Director, Shift Supervisor, Training Officer, or EMS Professional are eligible for this tuition subsidy. Participants are to complete the registration form. We will apply directly to the NC Office of EMS for the tuition assistance after successful completion of the certificate program. Agencies will then be reimbursed $600 of the $1,550 fee. Only 24 subsidies (limited to 3 per county) are available and they are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Agencies are asked to call Steve at 704-687-8925 if they are unsure whether they qualify for the subsidy.
*Tuition assistance is dependent on continued funding from NCOEMS.
Refund and Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received prior to 5:00 p.m. on October 8, 2008 will receive a full refund. Cancellations received after 5:00 p.m. on October 8, 2008, and before 5:00 p.m. on October 21, 2008, will receive a refund minus a $100 late cancellation charge. Substitutions will be accepted until October 21, 2008, at no additional charge. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after 5:00 p.m. on October 21, 2008, or for those who fail to attend the course.
UNC Charlotte reserves the right to substitute instructors, change the day a program meets, change the location of a program, or cancel programs due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen events. If UNC Charlotte must cancel a program, participants will be given a full refund of the registration fee. The University is not responsible for non-refundable plane fares, hotel and car deposits, or any other expenses incurred by registrants in programs.

Confirmation
The course fees are payable in advance. Registration is not complete and will not be confirmed until we receive full payment or company billing information, which will be acknowledged with a receipt or company invoice, confirmation letter, map and parking information.
