How do I register for a continuing education program?
Our programs generally offer four registration options. Each program description that appears on this website has, under a "registration options" heading, specific information on registration, including a Printable Registration Form that can be mailed (UNC Charlotte Office of Continuing Education, The Ben Craig Center, 8701 Mallard Creek Rd., Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28262) or faxed (704-687-8691) to our office, and a link that will allow you to complete your registration online (online registration is available only if you are paying by American Express, Visa, MasterCard or Diners Club). You may also complete your registration by phone at 704-687-8900.
May I register in person?
You may wish to register in person during our regular business hours. Our office is located in Suite 200 at The Ben Craig Center, located at 8701 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262. Please see the Map and Directions. While our office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, in order to better serve your registration needs, we ask that you come before 4:30 pm. You may also wish to call (704-687-8900) before coming as many transactions can be handled by telephone. However, cash payments must be made in person. Parking is free.
To cancel your registration, call 704-687-8900. If you call when our offices are closed, or when our phone lines are busy, you can leave a voice-mail message which is automatically date- and time-stamped; please be sure to include your name, the title and date of the program for which you are canceling your registration, and, if you wish, a phone number and/or an e-mail address to which we can acknowledge receipt of your cancellation.
You may also cancel your registration by e-mailing us at CEregistration@uncc.edu. Please be sure to give us all the specific pieces of information we will need to process your cancellation: your name, and the title and date of the program for which you are canceling your registration.
You can also fax us this information at 704-687-8691.
University policy states that you will receive your refund in the same manner in which payment was made. Therefore, if your payment was made by American Express, MasterCard, Diners Club, or VISA, the refund will be promptly credited directly to the same credit card account. If the payment was made by cash or check, a refund check will be issued by the University’s Financial Services Department to the individual or company named on the original check/receipted for a cash payment. This process involves the individual or company filling out a Request for Taxpayer Information (W-9 – available at http://www.finance.uncc.edu/REQUEST%20FOR%20
TAXPAYER%20INFORMATION.doc) and either faxing or mailing the completed form to us at the fax number or address listed below. Upon our receipt of this form, we will forward it along with the refund check request to the Financial Services Department for processing.

Are there special registration prices for UNC Charlotte Faculty and Staff?
Yes, click here for availability and details.
Do I need to be a UNC Charlotte student in order to register for a continuing education program?
Absolutely not. In fact, most of our programs are designed for other audiences, and UNC Charlotte students are not typically enrolled in them.
Can I earn academic credit towards a baccalaureate or master's degree by taking a continuing education program?
No. Continuing education programs do not award academic credit. However, many of our continuing education programs award other kinds of credit tied to the requirements of various professions. For example, many of our programs offer CPEs, which are used by accountants to meet their annual continuing education requirements; other programs offer PDHs for engineers, CLEs for attorneys, PDUs for project managers, etc. Almost all of our programs are approved to offer CEUs, or Continuing Education Units, which are a standard measure of instructional time and quality that is accepted in many contexts as satisfactory documentation of educational achievement. The Office of Continuing Education maintains permanent records of the awarding of CEUs (as well as CPEs, PDHs, etc.) and can furnish a transcript to individuals who need to verify their completion of these programs.
I notice that some programs offer more than one kind of professional credit -- e.g., CEU, PDH, CLE, CPE, PDU. What do all those different letters mean? Do I have to qualify, in some way, to receive certain kinds of credit? Can I receive more than one kind of credit for my participation in a program?
CEU stands for Continuing Education Unit. It is the most universally accepted, or generic, of the kinds of credit awarded for Continuing Education instructional programs. One CEU equals 10 contact hours of instruction. Every program participant qualifies to receive CEUs if a program offers CEUs.
PDH stands for Professional Development Hour. One PDH equals 1 contact hour of instruction. PDH credit is restricted to professional engineers and land surveyors; participants licensed in North Carolina must provide their North Carolina Registration Number in order for the credit to be properly reported.
CLE stands for Continuing Legal Education. One CLE equals 1 contact hour of instruction. CLE credit is restricted to attorneys; participants who are members of the Bar in North Carolina must provide their North Carolina State Bar Membership Number in order for the credit to be properly reported.
CPE stands for Continuing Professional Education. One CPE equals 1 contact hour of instruction. While CPE credit is of most value to CPAs who use it to meet their continuing education licensing requirements, the content of programs that offer CPE credit is appropriate to others who work in accounting and related fields. For this reason, non-CPAs may participate in such programs and may request that UNC Charlotte record CPE credit for their participation.
PDU stands for Professional Development Unit and is a measure used to quantify Project Management Institute (PMI)-approved learning activities. One PDU equals 1 contact hour of instruction. While PDU credit is of most value to Project Management Professionals (PMPs) who use it to maintain their PMI certification, and to those hoping to pursue PMP certification, the content of programs that offer PDU credit is appropriate to a wide range of professional audiences. For this reason, non-PMPs may participate in such programs and may request the recording of PDU credit for their participation.
Can I be awarded more than one kind of credit for my participation in a program? In general, an individual can be awarded only one kind of credit for his or her participation in a program. Exceptions, however, are made in the case of attorneys who must meet continuing education requirements as both attorneys and CPAs. In such instances, both CLE and CPE credits are recorded for their participation in a program, if the program offers both kinds of credit.
In general, we can receive and confirm your registration for a program provided you give us the information we need to invoice a third-party payer -- purchase order number (if your company/organization uses P.O. numbers), a complete billing address, the name of the person or the department to whom we should send the invoice, and a phone number we can use to follow-up with the company on invoice/payment issues.
All invoice payments are due upon receipt. Deferring payment until completion of the class is not offered.
How will I know if a program or class is cancelled because of snow or similar weather conditions?
If UNC Charlotte is closed, then the class will not be held. You may confirm whether the University is closed by telephoning the University Weather Hotline at 704-687-2877. This information will also be available through local radio and television stations.
Continuing Education will post a flashing "Click Here for Important Weather Information" icon on our webpages (in the left-margin, above the "Programs For" heading) on days when weather conditions might make it unclear whether a class will be held as scheduled. In general, if the University is open, then the class will be held. Our Weather Information icon will take you to any specific information on your program that is available. In addition, you can always call our main office number (704-687-8900) and inquire about the status of your class.
Please note: As a program participant, you should use your own best judgment as far as whether it is advisable to drive in snow or similar weather conditions that might be affecting the Charlotte area and/or the area from which you will be driving. We will work with you if we do not cancel a class but weather-related driving conditions prevent you from attending.
Participants who need to cancel their registration, or withdraw from a program, after the program’s cancellation and refund deadline, and believe that they have a compelling extenuating circumstance that should be considered, may request in writing that an exception be made to the program’s refund policy. Requests should be addressed to Dr. Connie Martin, Director, c/o Registration and Records Center, UNC Charlotte Continuing Education, and may be mailed to The Ben Craig Center, 8701 Mallard Creek Rd., Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28262; or faxed to (704) 687-8691; or e-mailed to CEregistration@uncc.edu. Your written request should clearly describe the nature of the circumstance and the reason why you believe the program’s published refund policy should not be applied. If, upon receipt of your request, we determine that we will need additional information, we will contact you. All written requests are given careful consideration under the Office’s established review processes. You will be formally notified of the action taken on your request as soon as possible.
